Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Get a physical from your doctor. Get checked for the biggies such as, hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, etc. Discuss your current diet and figure out what you need (and don't need) to accomplish the goals you are going to set for yourself.
Step2
Decide what you are trying to accomplish? Does it call for a radical change or a minor one? Look for cook books that specialize in the kind of diet you are wanting. Keep a list of the foods that you like and foods that you want to avoid.
Step3
Try different ways to cook some of your favorite foods. Stir fry and steaming are an excellent way to retain the nutrients in your vegetables. Make gradual changes. Don't try to do everything at once. It can be confusing and frustrating. Add raw foods to your diet.
Step4
Figure out what body type you have and what foods will actually work for you. Research the many diets out there and find one that accomodates your specific needs. Atkins and South Beach are two of the more popular diets on the market. You can also find diets that are based on your blood type.
Step5
Do not use artificial sweeteners, if at all possible. Some can be toxic and they can start a cycle within the body that may lead to insulin problems.
