Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
- Internet
- Doctor
- Pharmacist
Step1
First and foremost, discuss all meds and therapies with your doctor. He should be able to answer any questions you have. If you want more information there are several options. You can talk to your pharmacist or purchase a prescription drug book from your local drug store. Ask your doctor why you need a certain medication or therapy and what the benefits and side effects are.
Step2
Research any contraindications or side effects. Make sure your pharmacist knows all of the medications you take. If they don't give you the handout that gives you the information on the medications, ask for it. It's important to have and has lots of pertinent information.
Step3
Research the drugs on websites such as MedMD or MedRX. Many have posted comments by current users of some of the medications. Those comments can help you make an informed decision. As long as you remember that everyone is different and not all people will have the same reaction, you can gain quite a bit of information here. Be informed.
Step4
Check into alternatives and generics. They are cheaper and usually just as effective as the brand name. Some do have their drawbacks, but you will have to investigate to find them.
Step5
Look into lifestyle changes. They may eliminate the need for the drug in the first place.
