Have you ever seen a pregnancy belly cast? Some women love the idea of making a cast to preserve the memory of the pregnancy. The belly cast is basically a plaster cast that is in the shape of the pregnant woman's belly and breasts. Read on to learn how to use a belly cast.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Belly cast kit
  • Paints
  1. Step 1

Order your kit. The belly cast kits are about $32 plus shipping and include all necessary materials. You get a lubricant (you will definitely want it to come off after it dries), drop cloth to protect your floor, gloves, plaster and casting materials. The kit may also include decorating ideas to help you display the cast if you so desire.

  2. Step 2

Spread the oil all over your abdomen and breasts. This prevents the plaster from sticking to you.

  3. Step 3

Dip the cloth into the water and plaster mix. The fabric should be completely coated, so it stays in place and adheres to the rest of the fabric.

  4. Step 4

While sitting or lying down, have someone drape the fabric over your abdomen and breasts. The fabric needs to be touching the other fabrics (if it is strips) so they adhere properly without gaps.

  5. Step 5

Wait about 20 minutes for the plaster to bond before trying to remove it. After you remove it, let it sit and dry for another four to 12 hours, as recommended by the manufacturer.

  6. Step 6

After the cast is dry, you can display it as is, or decorate it using paints, beads or any other craft material. Display the cast in a nursery for a cute reminder of how the baby came into your world.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have someone help you through the process for best results.
  • If you are in the final months of pregnancy, try not to lay on your back to do the cast. Doing so may cause severe pain, so sit or recline in a chair to make the cast.
