You may have a desire to have English pasty on a cold winter day. This traditional English treat is easy to make anytime of the year.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 to 1 ½ lbs. ground beef
  • 1 sweet onion
  • 2 to 3 Yukon gold, red or russet Potatoes
  • Pie crust
  • 1 tbsp. minced garlic or garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • 1 tsp. seasoned salt or Creole seasoning
  • 1 tbsp. parsley
  1. Step 1

Peel and slice the potatoes and onion.

  2. Step 2

Layer the potatoes and half of the onions in the bottom pie crust.

  3. Step 3

Sprinkle one-fourth of the minced garlic or garlic powder, pepper, seasoning and parsley over the top of the potatoes and onions.

  4. Step 4

Take the ground beef and separate it over the onions and potatoes.

  5. Step 5

Take the other half of the onions and spread them over the ground beef.

  6. Step 6

Use the rest of the garlic, pepper, seasoning and parsley and spread over the top of the onions.

  7. Step 7

Put on your top pie crust and poke with several holes in the top to vent.

  8. Step 8

Put pie in a pre-heated oven at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to one hour until top is golden brown.

Tips & Warnings
  • The meat will make a nice juice, if you prefer your pie drier, use a less-fat ground beef. If you use less-fat ground beef (or turkey), and your pie could be dry, add a few tablespoons of water onto the top of the meat. The potatoes soak up excess for cooking, and the pie will be a little moister.
  • You can make individual pies too. Just roll and cut pie crusts into squares and create triangle “pockets” to layer your ingredients. These are great brushed with olive oil or use butter-layer biscuits rolled out thin.
  • Try putting slow-cooked stew meat in the pies. This makes the pie have a whole new flavor.
