How to change a colostomy

here's a few tips on changing an ostomy!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• a person with an ostomy
• a new ostomy bag
• wet wipes
• dry paper towels
• air freshener
• gloves

1. okay, first off put your gloves on. get everything ready to so you can do this quickly. Peel off the full ostomy bag and discard. quickly wipe all the excess feces off from around the stoma.

2. use warm water and soap to completely clean the area, dry the area completely! i always place a paper towel over the stoma while i am peeling the sticky tape of the new ostomy bag just in case. first measure the hole to make sure it will match the size of the stoma. if not then you may have to cut it a little to match it.

3. Peel back the sticky tape and stick around the ostomy, make sure it is completely covered and has no air bubbles or little openings where poopy can escape, believe me you'll be sorry later if you don't do it right the first time! :) spray some air freshener and your good to go! oh yea, and change the trash.
