How to Write Your Own Fable

Why not create your own? Why not create your own?

Hey, why should Aesop have had all the fun? Fables are fairly simple to write and they can teach kids a life lesson. Aesop's Fables such as "The Lion and the Mouse" and "The Tortoise and the Hare" have lived on for centuries. How about writing one that might live on for a decade or two in your home?

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Pen
  • Paper (or)
  • Computer
  • An imagination

Step1
Think of a moral to revolve the fable around. One that a child in the home needs to learn is ideal.
Step2
Create two or three central characters. Aesop used animals, which is fine, but people or even outer space creatures will do.
Step3
Place the characters in a difficult situation or a moral dilemma. All the interaction between the characters must resolve matters in either a positive or negative way.
Step4
Write the moral of the fable based on the lesson learned from the action taken and how a central character has been affected.
Step5
Let your imagination run wild. Try to write more fables, but keep in mind that each must have a moral base that becomes clear at its conclusion.

Tips & Warnings

  • Encourage your kids to write a fable. Express to them the fun you had creating them.
  • Don't take lightly any suspicious messages your child places in her fable, particularly if it relates to a sibling, parent or close friend. She may be trying to tell you something about a problem in her life.
