Things You'll Need:
- 1/2 yd. of felt material 36-48" wide, 1 or 2 colors
- Craft glue or hot glue gun
- Scissors or pinking shears
- Glitter, beads and trims
- Marker or dressmakers pencil
- Stocking pattern
- Iron on cool setting
-
Step 1
Decide how big you want this stocking to be. The 1/2 yard of felt is enough for a stocking that will finish 2- to 3-feet long.
-
Step 2
Pick a width for the stocking and either make an original pattern or cut one from a coloring book or a printable page from an online download. Trace the pattern onto paper or cardboard and cut out. Fold the material in half either lengthwise or crosswise, depending on the size of the pattern you chose. Place the cut-out pattern onto the felt material and cut the stocking out of the material. Cut two by placing the back of stocking on the fold of the material.
-
Step 3
Cut out the felt pattern and unfold. Turn the material to the wrong side of felt. Use the craft glue or hot glue gun to run a seam of glue all around the bottom of the stocking and up the cut side to seal it. Let dry and turn the stocking inside out so the seams do not show. Press lightly so stocking is flat.
-
Step 4
Next turn the top of the stocking down about 4" and press. You can glue the top to the main stocking or leave it as it is. Now comes the fun part, deciding how to personalize the stocking. Trims, glitter, beads, press-on cutouts, iron-on cutouts, laces or drawing with markers or paint are several options. Write the person's name or a holiday message on the folded down cuff. Trim the cuff with fur or pink edges with shears to finish it.
-
Step 5
The final step is to cut a piece of felt about 4-6" long and 2" wide and double into a loop. Glue the loop on the back of the stocking at the top and let it dry. Hang your stocking. This stocking can also be cut small and used as and ornament on a tree. Stuff the stocking with small objects.
