Whether you're a tourist, a business traveler or a resident of Chicago, knowing how to get to O'Hare International Airport by train is crucial to avoiding congested highways. Learn how to find your way to the airport by taking the eL.

From Quick Guide: Terminal Destination
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consult your transit map to find the nearest eL station near you. The eL is what the train system is called in Chicago.

  2. Step 2

Because most tourists and business travelers stay in the Loop, we'll assume you're coming from there. The Loop is the downtown area of Chicago. Go to the closest eL station.

  3. Step 3

If you don't already have a transit pass, purchase one at the station. It costs only $2 for a one-way trip on the train.

  4. Step 4

If you are taking the Red, Brown, Orange or Green lines, ride them until you get to the Clark/Lake stop. Here you can transfer to the Blue line. Otherwise, just take the Blue line.

  5. Step 5

Once you get to the Blue line station at Clark/Lake, look for signs that say O'Hare. You will want to be on that side of the platform.

  6. Step 6

When the next train comes, get on board.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have any problems with a fare machine or transferring to another train, consult the station attendant.
  • The Blue line is often undergoing construction and repairs. Factor these delays in and plan accordingly.
