If you don’t know what the term lojack is, then you don’t watch enough television. Lojacking is a way to monitor where an item is, especially if it is stolen. Some automobiles come with this system and now computers, including laptops can be equipped with this wonderful invention.

Thank how nice it would be if this was added to your laptop. If it is ever stolen, as soon as the laptop is connected to the internet the monitoring system will trace its presence, the police can be informed and hopefully the laptop will be returned to you.

Here is how it works.

From Quick Guide: Laptop Cases 101
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A tracing id tag

How to Lojack Your Laptop Computer

  1. Step 1

Buy a laptop all ready equipped with the lojack, tracking software such as some of the Dell computers

  2. Step 2

Place an identification tag such as the Axcess International Active Tag on the computer. This tag runs off a long acting battery. It costs between 50 cents and $10. You can buy an expensive laptop computer that only recognizes you as the user. There are computers that go beyond the usual passwords and actually will read your fingerprint. These laptops come equipped with bioscanners. But be warned, they are expensive.

  5. Step 5

There are some inexpensive things you can to help in the retrieval of a stolen laptop such as:

Registering your computer with the manufacturer when
    your purchase it.
Engraving your name or your company’s name onto the computer
Insuring your laptop with a company such as Safeware.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember if you take steps now to protect your computer you may be able to retrieve it later, if it is ever stolen.
