How to Do Research for a College Paper on the Internet

Things You'll Need:

• a computer with internet access
• a research topic

1. 

   Connect to the internet.

2. In the search form type in your topic for example if you are writing a paper about Martin Luther King, type Martin Luther King and click search or enter.

3. A list of web pages should appear on the screen. Read the short blurbs to find out which website will benefit you the most.

4. Click on the link and browse through the website.

5. Add that information to your research paper, but don't forget to cite your work!

Tips & Warnings

• Some websites are not credible. Try to stick to online encyclopedias when researching topics. A great online encyclopedia is www.wikipedia.com
• Do not copy the information from the website verbatim unless you quotate the information and cite it properly. This is called plagarism. It is illegal and you will receive an "F" on your paper if your teacher finds out.
