Many people cannot start their day without a cup of coffee or tea for that morning jolt of caffeine, but if it is starting to make you a little too jittery it may be time to cut back. There are easy ways to slowly reduce your caffeine consumption without cutting it out all together.

Things You'll Need:

  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Decaf coffee
  • Decaf tea
  1. Step 1

Watch out for caffeine that may be in foods and drinks that you would not expect. Many types of coffee ice cream and yogurt are filled with caffeine. Also, some energy drinks, types of iced tea, chocolate products and even hot chocolate contain caffeine. The amount of caffeine is not always listed on the product, but that information is easily accessible for specific foods and drinks on the Internet.

  2. Step 2

Make your coffee or tea a combination of half-decaf and half-regular. Decaf can have a little bit of caffeine in it, but regardless it is much less than something fully caffeinated, so adding it to regular coffee or tea will instantly reduce your caffeine intake.

  3. Step 3

Replace one of your caffeinated coffee, soda or tea drinks with water, milk or non-caffeinated juice. This will not only reduce your caffeine intake, but will keep you hydrated better.

  4. Step 4

Try drinking decaf tea. It comes in many different flavors that include ginger, orange, peach, vanilla and more. These teas are also very fragrant and can be served hot or iced.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do some research on your brands. Some specific brands of food or drinks are loaded with caffeine, while others brands of the same type of food or drink may have none.
  • Drink more water, it is fat-free, caffeine free and will keep you hydrated!
  • Some pain relievers and supplements are loaded with caffeine. Be very aware of what you are taking.
