Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Choose a team that suits you. Your favorite team may not necessarily be the best one to fit your play style. Check and see what type of play the team you’re thinking of prefers. If they don’t really suit the way you play the game, find a different team that will better meet your style.
Step2
Choose your playbook. As you play a bit, you’ll begin to find a set of plays that work for you. Try and pick these out as quickly as you can. The sooner you get used to a set book of plays, the better off you’ll be. Over-extending your playbook will leave you with a lot of clutter and plays you’ll never use.
Step3
Ask Madden if you’re unsure about what plays to be using. This is especially important for the first-time Madden player. If you’re hazy on what plays are best for a given situation, ask Madden.
Step4
Keep an eye on what your opponent is doing. One of the greatest features of Madden 08 is “read and react weapons.” These are tricks you can use, once you know what an opponent is doing, to act against them. If you see your opponent’s QB sneak back for a long pass, rush him before he can get it off. If you see his buddies sneaking around for a short run, tackle them before they can get around your defense.
Step5
Play to the strengths and weaknesses of your team. Focusing on just a few players leaves you open to disaster. If one of your star lineup gets injured, your team will suffer a crippling blow unless you’ve trained with other team members. Remember, everyone carries the team, not just a few stellar players.
Step6
Trick the clock if you have to. If you’re facing an opponent who is mopping the floor with you, try turning down the game tempo. This little cheat will greatly increase the impact of any fumbles or interceptions and could swing the game in your favor.
