    Financial goals...

Pick three topics for your simple New Years resolutions. This could be finances, budgeting, career, health or education.

  2. Step 2
    Eat healthier foods...
    Eat healthier foods...

Come up with some ideas for each of the three topics. As an example, for health you could include eating healthier foods and losing ten pounds. Make each one specific and achievable.

  3. Step 3

Choose one goal for each of the three topic areas. For health, you will lose ten pounds. For hobbies, you will subtract five strokes from your golf swing. For budgeting, you will get rid of $50 per week from your budget.
You should now have a list of three topics and one resolution for each one.

  4. How To Get Started on the New Year's Resolutions on New Year's Day

  5. Step 1

Get started with the New Year's resolutions right away. If you start a habit, it will be easy to follow through for the whole year and actually complete your goals.

  6. Step 2

Figure out one things you can do to start on each resolution. The key is to make it really simple. For your goal of losing ten pounds, you could call around and get prices for joining fitness clubs like Golds Gym.

  7. Step 3

Spend one hour or less on each resolution. You may even just spend ten minutes. The important thing is that you get started.

  8. Step 4

Spend at least a few minutes on each resolution each day. You will find this makes it a habit, and easier to follow through with. Also, in no time you will have made progress towards your goals.

  9. Step 5

Keep track of your efforts. You may wish to make a notebook where you will write down each day what you did towards each resolution.

Tips & Warnings
  • Rome wasn't built in a day. Small efforts each day will lead to great progress over the course of a year.
  • Don't try to do much the first day. If you spend more than an hour and work all through the day and night on New Year's day, you will just get frustrated. Start with some simple steps to get you on the right track towards achieving your goals.

on 12/20/2007 I particularly liked the idea of a budget resolution. I have always made resolutions for a healthier body, but never thought of including one for a healthy financial body! Good idea!!
