'Tis the season to be jolly--but many are not as they have lost the true spirit of Christmas. Christmas is about giving, and showing those you care about that you love them, not about materialism as it has become over the last 20 years. Here are some ideas to bring the true spirit of this magical holiday back by rejecting materialism.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Candle making supplies
  • A computer with t-shirt transfer paper, and good quality printing paper.
  • Jelly jars
  • Blank t-shirts
  • T-shirt creator software
  • Jam or jelly making supplies
  • A fertile imagination!
  1. Step 1

Start by listing everyone on your Christmas or Holiday list. Leave space next to each name for more information.

  2. Step 2

List all their hobbies and interests next to their names.

  3. Step 3

Now, be creative. How can you best bring the spirit of Christmas back to each person? If your child has wanted more time with you, use your computer to print a set of nice certificates good for 1 hour of uninterrupted time with Mommy or Daddy. Give a relative a gift of one evening babysitting, or a friend a certificate good for a dinner out and drinks on you.

  4. Step 4

A personalized T-shirt printed with a special photo makes a memorable gift for a friend or relative. T-shirt creation software is available at most computer stores, and it allows you to stylize the photo to fit the theme. Simply print your image onto the transfer paper, and iron on your image.

  5. Step 5

Homemade candles, jams and jellies represent gifts of your time, which is a more precious commodity than money! Give a beautiful assortment of jams and jellies to someone who loves breakfast or has a sweet tooth. Candles make wonderful gifts for romantics, or those who have a new home to decorate.

  6. Step 6

Using the hobby list you have, choose unique gifts for the rest of your list. If your husband is a football buff, give him tickets to a game instead of another foot warmer he will never use. If your daughter loves the theatre or movies, give her the gift of entertainment. Videos of their favorite sports or events also make great gifts.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep in mind that the end goal is to make your recipient happy, not to have an overstuffed Christmas tree!
  • If you sew or knit, this opens up even more possibilities. Try making a special sweater or scarf, or even a dress.
