With many places in the world to go why would you go visit Watertown, New York? Well, there are two main reasons. Watertown is the home of the 10th Mountain Division in the Army Base of Fort Drum, and it is also the home of World Cup Freestyle Kayak Championship.

Watertown is located 30 miles south of the Canadian border and about 70 miles north of Syracuse. Its vicinity to the Black River (which runa through Watertown) and to Lake Ontario makes it the perfect place for boating, camping, fishing and hunting.

Many come to Watertown to enjoy kayaking and whitewater rafting. In fact, at the end of summer is usually when they have the World Cup Freestyle Kayak Championship where kayakers from across United States and Canada meet and compete for the best in their category.

If you visiting Watertown with children, you must not miss the Zoo at Thompson Park and the Old McDonald Farm in Sackets Harbor (10 minutes from Watertown). The Zoo is open all year long, while Olds McDonald Farm usually closes in the winter months.
