How to Join Files Using HJSplit

HJSplit is a freeware program used to break huge files into smaller sections so they can be easily emailed or stored. With compatible versions available for Windows, Linux, Mac, Java and other file types, you can exchange the files between different operating systems. If you receive a set of HJSplit files, you'll need to join them to recover the original large file.

Things You'll Need

• HJSplit
• Media files that have been split apart

Instructions

1. Navigate to the HJSplit website and select the software version for your platform. Download the software.

2. Launch HJSplit. In the "File Join" window, click on the "Input file" button.

3. Locate the group of files that all have the same file name, except for the extension at the end of the file. The extensions begin with ".001" and continue ".002," "003" and so on. Make sure you have all the files needed to join. If one is missing, you will not be able to complete the process. The files should all be in the same directory.

4. Depending on the version of the freeware, the next screen asks you to locate the first file to be joined; it is the one with the ".001" extension. Click on "Open" followed by "Start" to initiate the joining process.

5. View the progress bar as the files are joined. When completed, HJSplit displays a "Joining Completed" button. Click "OK." The joined file is in the same directory as the parts of the file.

Tips & Warnings

• Make sure you have all the files to join. If one is missing, you will not be able to complete the process.
