Gas bills can make us sweat. Here are some tips on how to keep them low.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Electric heater
  • Sweater
  • Warm Blankets
  • Thick Curtains
  • Carpeted floors
  1. Step 1

Install electric furnace if you can. For 1 or 2 bedroom apartments, these are ideal. If you are buying a condo, look for the ones that have electric furnace. You will save a tons of money.

  2. Step 2

    Buy an electric heater.

  3. Step 3

Use a sweater at home. It doesn't cost much, and using a sweater may actually make you lower your heat control by a few degrees which may mean a substantial reduction in energy bills.

  4. Step 4

Similarly use warm blankets at night.

  5. Step 5

Shut off the heat terminal of rooms that you are not using, but make sure their doors are shut tight to prevent heat entry.

  6. Step 6

Curtains provide better insulation than windows alone.

  7. Step 7

Carpeted rooms are warmer than ones with hardwood floors. So you may want to consider this idea when shopping for a condo.

  8. Step 8

First floor apartments are usually warmer that top floor units. Again worth consideration when buying or renting a unit.

Therefore, it is important that we do not sacrifice our comfort for the sake of saving few bucks. By using these energy saving tricks, you should only be looking for substitute methods of keeping warm.

on 6/13/2008 I recommend the Econo Heat panel heaters. They attach to the wall, don't make any noise, and are not a fire hazard. They take a while to warm up though but are great for getting a bedroom cozy at night. They cost about $85. I have three of them.
