Things You'll Need:
- Surfboard
- Wet suit
- Car
- Map
- Portuguese phrasebook
-
Step 1
Warm up at Praia Azul. This quiet beach break is almost always working, and the nearby cliffs shelter the wave from much of the wind.
-
Step 2
Drive up the N-247 to Consolação. Each reaching over 6 meters, the right-handed wave is more consistent than the left. Watch for rocks and a strong riptide. Even if you can’t surf here, it’s worth the drive just to watch.
-
Step 3
Head to Supertubos. You don’t need to know anything other than the name, and that it’s a few minutes north of Consolação.
-
Step 4
Cap off your trip at Lagide. The best spot on the northern side of the city, this left-handed reef break is mellow and promises long, smooth rides. Watch for locals and urchins.
