Anyone can open a can to serve the typical cranberry side dish. Here is an easy way to spice up your holidays with a new twist on an old favorite--Spiced Citrus Cranberry sauce.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 bags of fresh cranberries
  • White sugar
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • A pinch of ground cloves
  • One orange
  • One tablespoon of brown sugar
  • One large saucepan
  • Water
  1. Step 1

Bring 2 cups of white sugar, 2 cups of water, plus brown sugar to a boil in the saucepan over high heat.

  2. Step 2

Add the cranberries, and turn heat to medium. Watch them carefully and stir them often.

  3. Step 3

The cranberries will pop, indicating that they are done. Cut the orange up into segments, then cut each segment into eighths. Toss the orange into the cranberry mixture. Turn mixture down to low.

  4. Step 4

Add the lemon juice, allspice, cloves and cinnamon, stirring well.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you prefer a less intense flavor, cut the cinnamon down by one-half.
  • This makes a great gift if placed in a jelly jar and tied with a nice ribbon. Be sure to let your recipient know that it is perishable.
  • Watch your berries carefully--if they stick and burn it will ruin the flavor.
  • Choose your berries carefully, don't buy berries that look wrinkled.
