Skiing is great fun and exercise!

Skiing can be challenging at first, but it is definitely worth the fun you'll have.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Skis
  • Poles
  • Lift ticket
  1. Step 1

Start slow. Try to make a "pizza" with your skis, where the tip of the pizza points down the slope, in front of you. To slow down, just make the pizza larger.

  2. Step 2

Practice keeping control and turning by slowly putting most of your weight onto one leg. This will allow you to turn in the direction of the weighted leg.

  3. Step 3

To stop, turn so that the right or left side of your body faces up the mountain, while the other side faces down the mountain. Once you are completely sideways, shift your weight so that you are standing mostly on the leg that is facing down the mountain.

  4. Step 4

Continue this zig-zag pattern the whole way down the mountain, practicing careful turns and stopping until you reach the bottom.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your legs need a break from the work, stop at a safe place off to the side, where you are in clear view of others.
  • If you fall, try to face sideways and put your ankles together, then stand up. If you are facing straight down the mountain when you stand up, you will begin to fly straight down the mountain.
  • Try not to be very stiff. Being nervous will make you want to be stiff, but try to resist the urge.
  • Know that you will not be an expert skiier right away, but that skiing takes some time to learn.
