Things You'll Need:
- Access to a grocery store
- Kitchen
-
Step 1
Go to the grocery store and purchase natural, unprocessed foods such as fruits, vegetables, salads, poultry, eggs, fish, nuts, healthy oils like extra virgin olive oil and flax oil, milk, yogurt, and 100% whole grain foods.
-
Step 2
Develop an eating pattern where you eat multiple times throughout the day. Never skip breakfast, and break your meals into smaller portions throughout the day if possible. Your metabolism will use more calories and store less this way.
-
Step 3
Develop or continue an exercise routine. This is less important than the previous steps but will help speed the fat burning process. More importantly, it has other health benefits (helps prevent or lower high blood pressure, reduces stress, minimizes risk of heart disease). If you're just starting, don't worry about how little it might seem you're doing, just get out there and do something on a consistent basis.
-
Step 4
If you apply the previous steps consistently, you will surely get rid of those love handles sooner or later. The rate at which that happens will depend on other factors such as exercise and your average rate of metabolism. But to take it to the next level, you need to apply the calorie shifting pattern of eating to your diet. This is where you focus your eating habits on certain macronutrients at certain periods of your eating patterns. By keeping your source of calories inconsistent, your metabolism will burn through the calories you consume quicker and then turn to the next available source - stored calories (fat).
-
Step 5
With step 4 in mind, find a nutritionist or an inexpensive online service that can develop a menu for you that has your favorite foods and applies the principles of calorie shifting, since this is difficult to do on your own. You can achieve short term, and more importantly long term, success with this type of diet because unlike most of those fad diets you are not restricting calories or any type of macronutrient that is required by the body to function optimally.
