We all have been in the situation where we are away from home, had a few too many and don't know how to get home. This is increasingly difficult during certain holidays where calling a cab may become more difficult or more expensive.
Stay Over: If you know you are going to have more than the legal limit to drink, find a place to stay over. If you are at someone's home, ask them to stay there or hitch a ride with a sober friend to their place and stay there. Sounds simple, but does require forethought. If you are at an inconvenient location, see if there is a nearby hotel that you can get a room at.
Step2
DD: Assign a designated driver. Make sure this is someone who is responsible and really will refrain from alcohol. If you have a big group of people coming from one area, consider renting a van for the night, that way there can be less DD's.
Step3
Driver: Rent a driver. This could be someone's little brother who is too young to drink and wants to make twenty bucks or you can plan in advance and get a limo or town car. Share the ride with friends and it could be fun. Most taxi companies will even plan to pick you up at a specified time.
Step4
Walk: If you are legally drunk, don't do this or you may get picked up by the cops. It can also be dangerous so walk in groups.
Bonus: The brisk night will do wonders for your hangover the next morning.
