Most older people have a lifetime of driving experience, so age should not be the only factor to consider when assessing a person's ability to drive. According to the National Council on Aging, changes in vision, physical fitness and reflexes may cause safety concerns. The NCOA suggests that the key is to be aware of these changes so you can adjust your driving habits or choose other means of transportation. The USAA Educational Foundation, AARP and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration put together a free booklet, "Driving Safely While Aging Gracefully," that outlines the physical effects of aging as well as tips on coping with them so that you remain a safe driver as long as you can.
