Things You'll Need:
- Paper
- Electronic Resume
-
Step 1
If you are looking for a new idea in job hunting try video resumes.
Career Builder, for one, advertises Video Resume as the next generation of online resumes and it's 100% free. Do a websearch for video resumes and you get a large sampling of sites offering this option. Including Jobster,Facebook, Vault.com, HireVue and Resumevideo all offering this option. -
Step 2
Experts highly recommend you use the internet as a PART of your job search. Always use other methods to partner with your online efforts. Talk with friends and network, get the word out you are looking. Look at the website of companies you want to target. Do you have a contact there? The internet is a great tool, just make sure it's not your only method.
-
Step 3
Pick a company you want to work for. Write a pointed cover letter and resume. Send it to a named person in HR that you have gotten the email from the site or a friend.
-
Step 4
Always start your new job search by update your Resume with your latest job experience and education. Then have a family member, friend, or teacher evaluate your resume to see if it ready.
-
Step 5
Use online message boards. Online message boards, are online forums where people can talk with each other. Although many internet users use online business message boards, like with assistance with finding a job. In most cases, online message boards are great ways to learn about work-at-home opportunities or nationally operated companies that may have a local branch near you. It is not uncommon for a current company employee to mention that their company is hiring or just outline the fact that they enjoy working for the company in question. Be sure to do your own investigation of any company you hear about.
-
Step 6
E-Mail Chain Letter Method is a different idea. This is not a recommend method if you are currently employed. Find 20 companies you want to work for and send an email to everyone you know to see if they know anyone who works at these companies. Ask them to contact you if they do, so that you can ask for a referral. Finally, ask them to forward your email to 10 more people.
-
Step 7
If you want help in the resume area there are companies readyto get you up to date. ProvenResumes.com just to name one. Resume Writing Services claim to have increased salaries 10% and more!
-
Step 8
Be original, look for creative or unusual methods that may just work. One applicant got a job by sending the cover letter and resume one day and calling the hiring manager the next. Not complete creative, but what could have come across pushy worked. The applicant knew the job included heavy phone calling and that she had a great phone voice. The hiring manager appreciated the applicant's interest, phone voice and quick follow up. She got the interview and then got the job!
-
Step 9
Have an email designated for your job search. If you do not have an email address already you can get a free one at gmail, hotmail or yahoo. If you do not have access to a computer at home you can use campus or library computers for your job searching. Create an email address that sounds professional. Include this email on the top of your resume and with any online job profiles you set up.
-
Step 10
Go to a search engine, like www.google.com and conduct a general web search for job sites. You will find there are many. Choose monster.com for example.
-
Step 11
Join this site and others as you branch out. Other sites to consider are: www.careerbuilder.com, www.hotjobs.com, www.jobcentral.com.
-
Step 12
Hotjobs!Other sites to try out.

-
Step 14
Run your job wanted ad at craigslist.org. You will be amazed at the traffic that site is know for.
-
Step 15
Save your resume as private or public. Once your resume is public you will receive phone calls and emails about openings companies and recruiters feel your skills are a good match for. Monster has a feature where you can set your resume to public and block a few companies from seeing it. Like your current employer!
-
Step 16

This may be because you are applying for the right job, and you will notice what websites employers use the most. www.jobing.com is becoming very popular.
-
Step 19
If you are looking for part time work try www.snagajob.com. Just enter in your zip code and see all the places hiring in your area! If you want to work part time and get some benefits, consider Home Depot, benefits come with a part time job with this company.
-
Step 20
Consider a video online resume. You can upload a video along with your resume. With so many employers looking for employees via the web this is the next direction for resumes.
