Now that your teen is able to wear adult clothing, you may be finding that she is dressing too adult like. Chances are you would prefer to see your teen daughter dress more modestly.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Teach her the importance of dressing modestly. Explain to your teen how you think she should dress and why it is so important to you. Show her images in the media and what people say about them because of the way that they dress. Let them know that you understand how important it is to her to have a stylish wardrobe and that you are willing to work with her to make sure that both of you are happy.

  2. Step 2

Teach her to layer. Many of the prettiest items in the store expose a great deal of skin. Layering your clothing will help her to wear these cute styles while keeping her under wraps. Look for extra long t-shirts to go under short tops and to pair with low-rise jeans. Look for thick tights, leggings, and bodysuits to wear under revealing dresses.

  3. Step 3

Have her buy a bigger size. Some items are extremely attractive, even to parents, but when your teen puts on the item in her size, you are amazed that she can still breathe. Have her purchase the item a size or two longer and then take up the item in key places like shoulders and under the arms if necessary.

  4. Step 4

Help her to inspect how her clothes look on her. Many tweens do not intend to dress provocatively and don’t realize what the clothes look like on their body. Teach her to look in the mirror and check different angles before leaving the home. Purchase a full size mirror for your teen and possible multiple mirrors so that she can see her full body. Have her lean over and while looking in the mirror to see if her shirt falls open. Have her lift her arms to see if her shirt comes up too far. Have her bend over and look behind her to see how much is showing when she has to pick something up. Once she knows how much skin she is showing, she can adjust what she is wearing appropriately.
