How to Enjoy an Adult Disney Cruise

How to Enjoy an Adult Disney Cruise thumbnail
You won't find any running children or screaming toddlers in the Quiet Cove pool area.

A break from Mickey Mouse and friends is not too difficult to come by when you're on a Disney Cruise. Although Disney Cruise Line is known for entertaining children, it reserves a section of its cruise ships exclusively for adults to eat, drink, play and relax. Adults traveling with their families can get some alone time by letting Disney staff supervise their children in youth activity centers. Adults traveling solo can pack their itineraries with shore excursions and nightlife.

Instructions

    • 1

Drop off the kids at one of four age appropriate, supervised youth activity centers on board Disney cruise ships. The youth centers are included in the cost of the cruise and accommodate children ages three to 17 years old. Disney staff will give you a pager so you can enjoy adult activities elsewhere on the ship without worry, and they will page you if your child needs you.

    • 2

Visit the Quiet Cove, a section of the ship reserved for guests who are 18 years or older. Drink specialty coffee and read or browse the Internet at the Cove Cafe. Swim and sun bathe at the Quiet Cove pool and order drinks at the poolside bar.

    • 3

Burn off calories at the on board fitness center. In addition to various cardiovascular and strength-training machines, Disney offers fitness classes and health seminars.

    • 4

Relax at the on board spa, called the Vista Spa and Salon on the Disney Wonder and Disney Magic ships, and the Senses Spa and Salon on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy ships. The Disney Cruise Line spas were rated in the top five of cruise ship spas by readers of "Conde Nast" magazine. Services include massages, facials and body scrubs.

    • 5

Debark to participate in tours and activities at ports of call. Activities include snorkeling, parasailing and visits to historic sites. Most Disney Cruise Line itineraries include a stop at Castaway Cay, Disney's private Caribbean island. Serenity Bay is a beach area on Castaway Cay reserved exclusively for adults, where guests can rent snorkel equipment, have drinks at a tiki bar or get open-air cabana massages.

    • 6

Dine at Palo, which is on the Disney Wonder and Disney Magic ships, or Remy on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy ships). At Palo, you can enjoy northern Italian cuisine and Remy offers French cuisine served in an upscale, adults-only atmosphere. Fine dining restaurants require advance reservations and are not included in the base price of the cruise.

    • 7

Dance, sing or enjoy evening drinks at on board nightclubs and lounges. Check your event guide, called the Disney Navigator, for scheduled beer, martini and wine tastings. Additional nighttime activities that may be scheduled during the cruise include bingo, wine presentations and films.

Tips & Warnings

  • Advance reservations are recommended for spa services and fine dining. Add reservations on the Disney Cruise Line website after booking your cruise, or call 800-951-3532

  • Disney cruises do not have casinos or gambling, with the exception of bingo and bridge tournaments.
