Paint the room in a soft pastel color. Pink, yellow or blue would be great, but the color should be so faint that it could pass for white. Just hints of the color would show in certain light. To find the right color, bring your daughter to the paint store and look through the samples that show several shades of the same color. Pick the lightest color on that sample to paint the room, and a quart of another shade to use for accents. Painting the room in a light neutral shade of her favorite color will ensure that she won't soon grow sick of the walls.

Create an accent wall. Draw a shape (like the one shown) above the bed and paint it in the accent color for the room. Before painting the accent color, paint the shape with a magnetic primer. With double stick tape, glue feather boas to trim the shape on the accent wall. Glue flat back gemstones on the wall as the photo indicates.

Here's an alternate accent wall idea. You can choose to use the previous accent wall idea above her desk and instead create a canopy above the bed. This can be done by installing a curved curtain ring above the bed and adding long sheer curtains to it to drape over the top and sides of the bed. To the front of the drapery hardware, attach a jeweled crown.

Find a luxurious fuzzy (or shag) area rug to layer over existing flooring. You can use small area rugs next to the bed and in other key places where she routinely stands.

    • 5

Glue gemstones onto all room accessories. Add gemstones to pencil keepers, jewelry boxes, mirror trim and more. For larger items, add boa trim. This will not only give the room a regal feel, but will also update old worn room accessories. If things need painted, do so in the room accent color before adding gems.

Finish the room by adding accessories such as tiaras (beauty pageant type) and silk pillows with more boa trim sewn to it.
