Things You'll Need:

  • Persistence
  1. Step 1

Seek out a local lapidary class at college campuses or adult education centers as well as at community centers.

  2. Step 2

Look for a lapidary club in your area. You may be able to find a club by searching online.

  3. Step 3

Search online for "lapidary" and your city name to find stores, organizations, or even individuals involved in the art in your area.

  4. Step 4

Join what classes or groups that you can and seek out a mentor from within the ranks, or contact individuals and ask if they would be willing to teach.

Tips & Warnings
  • Find a teacher that you get along with, especially if you will be working one-on-one. You will want to be friendly if you are going to learn from them.
  • Make sure that you have the proper equipment so that you are not putting wear on your teacher's equipment. They can help you learn what to buy.
  • Do not go crazy buying the equipment. You do not need a sphere machine to start out unless that is all you plan on doing. Start small with your mentor's help.
