Things You'll Need:
- Skateboard
- About $40
-
Step 1
Are you a street skateboarder or are you more of a sidewalk cruiser? If you want to do skatepark riding or you are serious about learning tricks, you'll want hard wheels. Decide or get 2 different boards.
-
Step 2
For a longboard, you'll combine soft and large wheels.
-
Step 3
For a streetboard, you'll combine hard and small wheels.
-
Step 4
Go to your local skate shop. You'll notice there are varying levels of wheel hardness, measured in durometers. The higher the number, the harder the wheel. Durometers range from 75 to 100. Hard wheels go faster. Soft wheels will grip the surface better and offer a smoother ride.
-
Step 5
Next, you’ll look at the wheel size, measured in millimeters. Smaller wheels are usually 40 millimeters to 54. Larger wheels are 65 millimeters to 100. Smaller wheels offer more maneuverability for tricks.
