How to Make Molasses Sugar Cookies

If you love the rich taste of molasses, you will love these cookies. Molasses cookies are similar to sugar cookies but they have a distinct molasses flavor. Molasses cookies are great for the holidays and to give out as gifts.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 cup margarine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup additional

    Molasses Cookies

  1. Step 1

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease cookie sheets.

  2. Step 2

    Sift together flour, baking soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon and salt in a large bowl; set aside.

  3. Step 3

    Melt margarine in a sauce pan over low heat.

  4. Step 4

    Remove from heat, cool slightly and add 1 cup of sugar, molasses and egg. Mix well.

  5. Step 5

    Add flour mixture and mix well.

  6. Step 6

    Chill dough until firm, about 2 hours.

  7. Step 7

    Roll dough into small 1-inch balls and then roll into the remaining sugar.

  8. Step 8

    Place cookie dough about 2-inches apart on cookie sheet.

  9. Step 9

    Bake 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from oven and cool on cookie racks.
