How to Mind Skatepark Etiquette

Roll around the park without smashing and crashing and otherwise annoying other skaters.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Once you've arrived, make sure you look at the posted rules. Some parks require you to wear all the gear--helmet, knee, wrist and elbow pads--others don't.

  2. Step 2

Spit out your gum. If you lose it, someone's wheels might get stuck in it.

  3. Step 3

Check out the flow of the park. Which way is everyone skating? That's the way you want to skate.

  4. Step 4

    Take your turn.

  5. Step 5

Go to the sidelines when it's time to eat or drink.

  6. Step 6

Be friendly. Skateboarders can look mean but they just want to have fun.

  7. Step 7

Don't be afraid to say: "I'm new at this." You would be surprised how many people jump to help you out.

  8. Step 8

If you fall, get up as quickly as possible (if you can) because there's someone else rolling up right behind you.

Tips & Warnings
  • As you become a better skater, be kind to newbies.
  • Wear all your safety gear even if it's not required.
  • Don't leave valuables, such as your cell phone, lying around.
  • Don't talk in the middle of the park. If you're not skating, beat it to the sidelines.
