Step 1
Choose the Right Stuff
After years of trying all sorts of products designed to help me maintain maximal health and longevity and even seeing an anti aging doctor and spending thousands on his program, I found a simple solution that outshines them all. I have cupboards filled with vitamins and supplements, but some time back I bought a vegetable and fruit juicer and I found that the product that it produces is far superior to even the best vitamins, minerals and other so called miracle health supplements and drugs. -
Step 2
The Formula!
Each morning I take two apples, two carrots, two celery sticks and a one inch chunk of ginger root and run them through the machine and drink up. The juice tastes great and I can even get my kids to drink it. No wired feeling like with some discount vitamins and supplements. No bad gas or after taste like with some discount vitamins. No worry of health risks like I sometimes have taking other supplements.
I don’t think that my recipe is the secret and you can certainly juice many other combinations of vegetables and fruit. The important thing is to find a combination that includes at least one nutritional vegetable and one nutritional fruit. I think it is also important that it tastes good. Other fruits and vegetables that I like to juice are sweet potatoes, pineapple, grapes, broccoli, strawberries and watermelon, just to name a few. I juice sweet potatoes, pineapple, melon and apples with the rind seeds and all, which makes it fast and easy. My wife also uses the juicer quite a bit to process vegetables for use in all kinds of healthy soups and sauces. -
Step 3
Don’t Skimp on the Juicer
A good juicer can be a couple hundred dollars, but it is an investment in health and longevity that will pay big benefits for years to come. With all those mass commercialized supplements I was trying without good results, my juicer is actually saving me money. The juice helps me to get my daily servings of both fruit and vegetable, helps me not to get sick and curbs my apatite. Best of all, I am recovering well from workouts have great energy and look and feel better than ever!
Whole foods provide micronutrients that you just can’t get from a pill or powder and my fresh juice is packed with natural vitamins and minerals. I suggest buying a high end home juicer like the Breville 800 and you can find many great brands at great prices just by Googling “Juicers” If I rinse the juicer parts right after juicing it is easy and fast. Just don’t let them sit or the pulp will stick and be a pain to clean off. I don't do anything else with my diet and eat what I want for lunch and dinner, but 40 minutes before dinner I repeat this juicing process. I have been losing fat at a healthy rate and have great energy.
If I was asked to provide one tip for boomers to maintain long healthy lives it would be to buy a juicer and juice fresh fruit and vegetables twice each day. As an added benefit, I compost the pulp left over after juicing and use the compost to grow some healthy vegetables for my family to eat. A juicer is not only a great investment in your health and longevity, but in your family’s health as well. Buy one and use it regularly and you will not be disappointed.

on 3/21/2008 For most of my life I've tried to eat healthy and exercise. Then a doctor told me (5 years ago) I had a weak heart and wouldn't live much longer if I didn't stop smoking. Well, my diet and nutrient intake changed and now I feel better.
Very good, juicing fruits and vegetables enables more of the vitamins, minerals and fiber to absorb into our digestive system and blood stream.
I take extra vitamin C daily. I also take vitamin E (natural d-Alpha) with selenium, cold water fish oil, flaxseed oil. Natural supplements are better.

on 12/8/2007 Very nice! I bought a juicer a few years ago. It is sitting in storage collecting dust because I couldn't figure out a formula that I liked. Maybe I didn't try hard enough. I'll get it out again! Thanks for a good article! K

on 12/2/2007 Hi Katherine,
Congratulations on starting to run again!
I also juice fruit like oranges, but I do this with a hand juicer rather than my electric extractor that I use for things like sweet potatoes, ginger, carrots, apples etc.
I find that I still do best on my long runs and rides drinking only Gatorade Endurance rather than water. The simple sugars keep the glycogen toped off and help with the fat burning process and the electrolytes replace those lost through sweat. I also use a recovery drink (Ultragen by First Endurance) just after long runs because a drink with a 4/1 carb to protein ration within 20 minutes of a workout will go directly to replacing muscle glycogen for recovery.

on 11/30/2007 Good article! I started running again and have been craving oranges and clementines - I can only imagine how wonderful they'd taste juiced right after a workout. I think that in order to speed recovery times, people need to break the cycle of buying sports drinks and sports bars. Whole foods like fruits, vegetables, and fresh juices and herbs like stinging nettle, oatstraw, ginger, and ginseng are a lot more effective. I find it interesting that you naturally put ginger in your juice blend - it's an anti-inflammatory so I can definitely see the value in that. Good luck with your training!
