Things You’ll Need:

1 1/2 teaspoons freshly grated nutmeg

1/2 cup sugar

3 cups 1/4-inch bread cubes

2 tablespoons melted butter

Grated rind of 1 lemon

2 pounds large apples
Step1
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Step2
Combine nutmeg and sugar, setting aside two tablespoons for later.
Step3
Place breadcrumbs in a bowl and coat with remaining sugar mixture, melted butter and lemon rind.
Step4
Peel apples and cut into large wedges.
Step5
Line the bottom of a casserole dish with breadcrumb mixture then layer with apples. Alternate leaving bread crumbs at the top layer and sprinkle with remaining sugar mixture.
Step6
Cover tightly and bake 40 minutes in pre heated oven. Remove cover and bake additional 20 minutes or until apples are tender and topping is browned.
