How to Wax Your Eyebrows

Tweezing your eyebrows can be very time consuming. An easier alternative for those who don’t have sensitive skin is eyebrow waxing. Waxing takes less time than tweezing and the results last longer. Generally, it is recommended that you have your eyebrows waxed by a trained professional, but in reality our busy schedules don’t allow for a lot of free time and professional waxing can be expensive.

Here are some simple steps for at-home waxing:

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • professional eyebrow waxing kit
  1. Step 1

Your first step that needs to be done before you begin is to buy a professional eyebrow waxing kit. You can find these at most beauty stores. A basic kit should include a container of wax, a small applicator to apply the wax and hair removal strips.

  2. Step 2

Next, brush your eyebrows into place using an eyebrow brush or a soft toothbrush.

  3. Step 3

Apply a numbing gel or astringent such as witch hazel to the brow area.

  4. Step 4

Decide how long the brow should be by holding a pencil parallel to your nose and then leveling it with the inner corner of your eye. This is where your brow should begin. Now, hold the pencil from the edge of your nostril to the outer edge of the iris. This is where the arch of your brow should be. Any hair that is beyond the pencil’s tip towards the jaw line is what you’ll want to apply the wax. When waxing, an ideal shape is a brow that tapers slightly at the outer ends.

  5. Step 5

Before you begin waxing, make sure that you read all of the manufacturers directions carefully and then start by warming the wax.

  6. Step 6

Dip the small applicator into the warmed wax and apply a thin layer to the growth of hair under the eyebrow that you want to remove. Be sure that you apply the wax in the same direction as the hair growth.

  7. Step 7

While the wax is still warm, apply the strip over the wax and press firmly. Allow the wax to cool, but do not allow the wax to dry.

  8. Step 8

Once the wax has cooled, pull the skin taut with one hand and remove the strip firmly and quickly with the other. If you have thicker hair, you may want to remove the hair a little at a time.

  9. Step 9

If there are any hairs that did not get pulled, do not wax them again. Waxing over a freshly waxed area can cause irritation to the skin. Instead, pluck the stray hairs with a pair of tweezers.

  10. Step 10

To soothe the skin, apply a soothing balm such as tea tree oil on the area.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you’d like, you can define the shape of your brow you can use an eyebrow pencil to shade in any gaps and even out your natural color tone.
  • Now that you have created and shaped your brows, be sure to avoid any acid based facial treatments for the first few hours after waxing. You should also probably avoid eye makeup was well.

on 10/4/2009 It sounds quicker to wax eybrows than plucking but needs more skill.

on 5/5/2009 I'd also heard that the pencil moved to the edge of the eye (beyond the iris) gives the end of the eyebrow on the jaw side...so anything beyond that should be removed, then taper as you said from the iris-pencil-line to the end of the eyebrow, right?

on 5/5/2009 Great advice on waxing one's own eyebrows. It's also a way to save money at the salon.

on 12/4/2008 I'm so afraid to do this because I worry that I am accidentally going to take too much off. With your tips, I may give it a try!
