Changing up your hairstyle does not have to be a challenge. No salon stylist or beauty school experience is necessary to achieve this following look, created using simple bobby pins. This look is especially wonderful for those greasy root days, where a shampoo and style is just not an option. No one will ever be able to tell that you didn't just visit a top salon with this simple yet sophisticated style

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bobby pins--as few as two, but have about six handy to be safe
  1. Step 1

First, you need to make sure your hair is brushed out and ready for styling. If you have curly hair, use product to tame fly-aways and frizz before beginning this style. To note, this quick hair fix works great for both straight and curly hair types.

  2. Step 2

As an option, you may want to apply root enhancing/de-greasing powder to your roots before you begin. This is especially true if you have not washed your hair in a few days. Aveda and Bumble & Bumble make great products for this purpose. If you don't have these handy, try using simple baby powder to de-grease those roots. Remember, less is more!

  3. Step 3

Part your hair where you usually part it, or where you want your permanent part to be for this style. A side part works great and is ultra-stylish for this look.

  4. Step 4

Take your first bobby pin in hand. Grab a medium sized section (about two or three inches wide) from the front of your head (near your face/bangs area). Pull backward towards the direct back of your skull.

  5. Step 5

Press hair section into the back of your head and pin. Use an upward motion when pinning in order to give lift and volume to your crown (that sexy oomph!).

  6. Step 6

Repeat step four on the other side of your head. Use a mirror to view the back of your head to make sure that both sides are even. You may stop here, if you are satisfied with your look, or continue on.

  7. Step 7

Repeat step four once again on each side of your part, using smaller sections of hair this time. Overall, you will have a partially or fully half-up do with a stylish and sleek appearance in the back.

  8. Step 8

Add the spray. Use extra hold hairspray liberally over head, especially over the pinned up back. This will insure that your look will last you all day--and night.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add more or less pins to secure your hair or change the appearance of the style as needed.
  • Keep a few pins in your purse to maintain your 'do throughout the day.
  • Let your bangs flow loosely or pin them back with decorative pins for additional glamour.
  • Make sure you secure this, like any other updo, with hairspray.
