Things You'll Need:
- ½ cup toasted walnut pieces
- ¼ cup white sugar
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- Heavy bottomed saucepan
- Fork
- Parchment paper

Step 1
Mix the sugar and salt and place in the saucepan.

Heat over medium-low heat. Do not disturb until the sugar begins to melt.

Stir with the fork and let the sugar caramelize slightly (1 to 2 minutes).

Step 4
Working quickly, add the walnut pieces to the pan and mix with the fork. Immediately transfer the nuts to the parchment paper. Allow to cool.

Step 5
Break apart the nuts if they have stuck together.

on 1/4/2008 I have found that soaking the pan in scalding hot water immediately after removing the walnuts makes it easier to clean. But it can get messy if you let it sit.
