How to Make Herbed Butter

Blending herbs, seasonings or other ingredients into softened butter can add a touch of elegance to a meal. Flavored butter is easy to make, and freezes well for future use.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • Salt and white pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped herbs like fresh rosemary, sage, thyme, tarragon or parsley
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Medium bowl
  • Wooden spoon
  • Small ramekins (optional)
  • Wax paper (optional)

    How to Make Herbed Butter

  1. Step 1

    Place softened butter in the bowl and stir with the spoon until it is creamy.

  2. Step 2

    Mix in herbs and lemon juice.

  3. Step 3

    Salt and pepper to taste.

  4. Step 4

    Use immediately while still soft by packing into small ramekins and leveling the top. Or roll the butter into a cylinder using the wax paper. Refrigerate for one to two hours and slice into thin rounds.

Tips & Warnings
  • Flavored butters can be refrigerated for up to 24 hours.
  • Flavored butters can be frozen for several weeks. Once thawed, use within 24 hours.
