How to Keep Mint from being Invasive

Mint of any variety can be very invasive and some consider it a weed. In fact mint can be used in many ways and is wonderful to have in any garden. Mint has been around for such a long period of time and that is due partly because of its ability to spread easily. Mint can take over a garden in no time, so try these suggestions to keep it in bounds.

Things You'll Need:

• Hanging pot
• Large planter
• Barrier such as metal or wood
• Lawn mower
• Hand Pruners

1. Grow in a hanging pot to make a great showpiece at an entrance.

2. Place mint in a large planter to keep it from spreading so easily.

3. Add a barrier in the ground around the mint plant to a depth of at least 12 inches.

4. Run the lawn mower over aggressive mints to help keep them in a smaller area.

5. Prune back your mint often as this not only keeps in in bounds but keeps the flavor more potent.

Tips & Warnings

• Mints will grow in full sun or shade.
• Mints will grow almost anywhere, and take over any garden if not contained.
• Grow different varieties of mint separate from each other to keep flavors from mingling.
