Things You'll Need:
- An empty drawer or cupboard
-
Step 1
Next time you see a nice set of stationery, a pretty photo album, or a unique picture frame on sale, buy it! It doesn't matter if you don't have someone in mind--keep it on hand and it will stand in nicely for the next time you need a gift and otherwise wouldn't have one readily available.
-
Step 2
Keep your "just in case" drawer fully-stocked. There's no such thing as "too much" in your drawer of treasures. In fact, the more you have on hand, the more you'll have to choose from, and the more likely you will be able to choose a gift appropriate for the person who unexpectedly gifted you!
-
Step 3
Wrap the present in a neutral paper. Ie: don't use Christmas paper or wrappings that are obviously meant for a birthday. Use solid stripes or even plain white with a solid-colored ribbon or bow. That way your gift looks appropriate for any occasion and is ready for giving!
**NOTE: Make sure you put a sticky note on the present so you remember what it is! If you'd rather not wrap it up, just put a pretty ribbon or bow on top so the receiver doesn't have any idea you just pulled it out of your "just in case" drawer. -
Step 4
Once your "just in case" drawer is fully-stocked, you are prepared for any and all unexpected gifts, and can reciprocate even though you hadn't originally planned for it. After all, wouldn't you rather give a gift that's not a 100% perfect match than nothing at all?
