How to Use Lemon Verbena

Lemon verbena is popular with everyone because of its lemony aroma. It was once called the Scarlet O’Hara herb because southern ladies used lemon verbena leaves to wipe their brows. This herb belongs in every garden because of its versatility.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lemon verbena leaves, dried or fresh, amount will depend on how strong you like it
  • Tea pot
  • Bottle of white wine

    Cold Processed Soap addition

  1. Step 1

    Dried crushed leaves can be added to cold processed soap, during the soap making process.

  2. Step 2

    Fresh leaves can be added on top of soap bars, then glazed with glycerin to add a special touch.

  3. Step 3

    Tie leaves onto bag that holds soap for an added touch.

  4. Culinary Uses

  5. Step 1

    Chop leaves and add to salad dressings.

  6. Step 2

    Use whole leaves as a cold salad garnish.

  7. Step 3

    Chop and add to green vegetables such as cooked peas.

  8. Step 4

    Sprinkle chopped leaves onto baked fish.

  9. Herbal Tea and Wine

  10. Step 1

    Steep the leaves in hot water for a few minutes. Strain and drink.

  11. Step 2

    Add leaves to a bottle of white wine and let it sit overnight. Decant and drink.

  12. Step 3

    Tie leaves onto wine bottle neck when giving it as a gift.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add other interesting herbs to make a tea.
  • Add to other wines to see what you like.
  • Fresh herbs go further than dried herbs, so watch the amount you use.
