Ginger is a tender perennial. Some consider it an herb and others consider it a spice. Either way, ginger does not freeze well, so this way of keeping ginger fresh will make it last a very long time, if refrigerated.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fresh ginger
  • Knife
  • Glass jar with lid
  • Sherry
  • Label
  1. Step 1

Wash the ginger with the papery cover on.

  2. Step 2

    Slice ginger into thin slices.

  3. Step 3

    Place ginger slices in jar.
    Cover ginger with sherry.

  4. Step 4

    Cover jar with lid.
    Label and refrigerate.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add some of the ginger sherry to some of your dishes when cooking.
  • You can peel the papery covering off if you like, but this is optional.
  • Choose fat, full ginger hands with well defined eyes and avoid shriveled ginger hands.
