Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
- An Authorized version of the Scriptures ( or what is usually referred to as The King James Version.)These scriptures are public domain and have not been added to or subtracted from.
- A note book and pencil or pen to keep track of your progress.
- A quiet comfortable place to go to where you will not be disturbed. ( and your phone won't ring.)
- A set quiet time each day is important in order to give to this project a chance to be accomplished.( It is also good for your health.)
- A determination to accomplish the task.
Step1
Get your public domain KING JAMES BIBLE preferably LARGE PRINT. Do not settle for the NEW king james version or any other of the many many NEW versions available these days.
Step2
REALIZE THAT YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH THIS PROJECT.
Step3
Set for yourself the BEST TIME AND PLACE to start this project. ( This is probably the most difficult part.)
Step4
MOST IMPORTANT: ( This step is most important.) START IN THE FOURTH BOOK OF THE NEW TESTAMENT. Start in the gospel of John. There are 21 chapters in this book. Read these chapters through slowly five times.
. . . . . . . . . . . ( before continuing ) PLEASE CLICK ON THE VIEW ALL STEPS TAB BELOW.
Step5
PROCEED TO GENESIS ( The first book of the Bible.) READING THE FIRST FIVE CHAPTERS. There are 50 chapters in this book.
Skip over to the Psalms and start with Psalm one. There are 150 chapters so this can keep you busy.
Step6
Proceed slowly back and forth from the Old Testament to the New Testament. You will find that the key to the scriptures is found in John 5:39 Where Jesus said, "Search the scriptures . . . "they are they which TESTIFY OF ME."
Step7
IMPORTANT NOTE. Being that there are over 110 versions of the Bible in our English language. Gail Riplingers 700 page book NEW AGE BIBLE VERSIONS is must reading. ( This is for anyone wanting to get to the bottom of the Bible version issue.)
Step8
THE BIBLE IS GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS. ( GOOD NEWS IF YOU COME TO CHRIST. BAD NEWS IF YOU DON'T.) John, Chapter 5:40 "And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life."

on 7/17/2008 To HELP you study the Bible on your own, you will benefit from these RESOURCES: New Living Translation Bible and New King James Version Bible (use both as you study along). BIble Commentaries to help you understand what is being said and what the context is from history and its meaning (this is called hermenutics). Use Thru the Bible by J. Vernon McGee, and THe Bible KNowledge Commentary. To find the original word from the original manuscripts of the BIble use the Interlinear Bible by Jay Green Sr. To study the basics of Christianity go through the discipleship information in the "School of BIblical Evangelism" book. It also tells you how to share the gospel correctly according to the Bible. You can additionally go through free audio lessons as you study through the Bible at: http://www.austinbiblechurch.com/thruthebible.asp

on 12/6/2007 Did you know that there are over 110 English Versions of "God's Word?"
With the way that the NEW revisions of the scriptures are going . . . ( Satan’s way.) It won’t be long until all references to Jesus Christ being the only way to God . . . Will be taken out. I wonder how many “Christians” will think that this is a good version when it comes out? Of course it will be against the law to own a King James Version of the scriptures by then

on 12/5/2007 Why so many CAPS? I am confused as to why you would say not to listen to annotated versions of the Bible but then offer instructions yourself as to reading it. Trying to read a book in which some material is 3,000 years old w/o annotations or end notes is kind of ridiculous b/c even Biblical scholars are unsure of the exact back stories and contexts of certain stories in it. I'll admit the Bible does offer up some very interesting literature and fables and myths though. Good article.

on 11/26/2007 I agree with most of this article but have found the NIV or NRSV to be a great version of the Bible also. Good article though!
