Whether you are collecting seed for propagation or for cooking, the method is the same. This method can be used to collect flower seeds as well. Collecting seeds will greatly reduce your cost when growing new plants.
Cut branches of well matured seeds, or remove seed heads.
Step2
Place the branches in paper sacks. Do this carefully so you won’t lose any seeds. The sacks need to be large enough to hold the branches or seed heads.
Step3
Shake the bag and the seeds will fall off the branches into the bag. Some seeds may need to be rubbed off the branch.
Step4
Store the seeds in opaque containers in a cool, dry place.
Tips & Warnings
Seeds that you harvest don’t have to be refrigerated.
Seeds turn darker when well-matured.
Do not wait too long to collect seeds. Collect before they scatter themselves.
Be sure the seeds you collect are very well-matured, because if they aren’t, they will not germinate when you get ready to plant them.
