Step 1
Arrive when the gates open and head for the rides first. By early afternoon, the lines get long and tedious. Keep an unhurried, steady pace. Grab a map, too, when you walk through the gates to maximize time spent on getting from one place to another. See the animals and then walk a ½ mile to the Midway.

Step 2
Brave the stink and investigate chickens, pigs, goats, sheep and cows. Fairs are well-known for cavernous buildings chock full of prize winning animals. Ask questions of the breeders and farmers. Take pictures. Keep track of the time because there are so many different kinds of animals. Oh, and don’t forget to hold your nose.

Step 3
Eat junk. Yes! Try to find Elephant Ears at your local grocery store. Just limit how much fair food to eat. Getting a stomach ache ruins all the fun. Eating 3 to 4 kinds of fair food usually is enough for any person. Cotton Candy. Turkey Leg. Fried candy bars. Gigantic blueberry slushies. Finding your favorites might take the whole day.
-
Step 4
Enter the Midway with a spending limit. Some say $20 is enough. Remember that you will spend all of your money within 10 seconds. But the opportunity to toss ping pong balls at goldfish only comes once a year. Throw darts with gusto. Shoot the targets until your finger blisters. Hello, fun. Good-bye, money.

Step 5
Find the racing pigs and sit down front. Get there early because this tent is always packed with people. Kids and adults laugh for the entire 30 minutes it takes to complete 3 races. The trainer gives away prizes. Plus, the pigs enjoy every turn of the track. The pigs have names like The Baconator and Hammy Davis, Jr. When the pot bellied pigs finally show up, people have tears in their eyes. No, really.

Step 6
Hunt down some of the special attractions like carving with chainsaws, the tractor pull, acrobatic shows, sheepdog demonstrations or lawn mower racing. Pay careful attention to the times these attractions begin. Check your guide. Several shows are usually presented throughout the day. Thankfully, the variety of attractions appeals to almost everyone. Go Monster Trucks!
