They're shiny. They're fun. They're patent leather and vinyl fashions. And they're easy to add to any outfit without being reported to the fashion police.

Things You'll Need:

  • Shopping money or hand-me-downs
  • A fashion flair for fun
  1. Step 1
    Hot! Hot! Hot!

Go shopping. Patent leather and vinyl can be found in any department stores, specialty shops and boutiques that carry purses, bags, belts, boots, shoes and coats. The shinier, the better. Try traditional black, or have fun with patent leather finds in red, yellow, blue, green or white. Just don’t go overboard, sailor.

  2. Step 2

Vintage patent leather and vinyl is exciting to find, especially when the discovery is a bargain. Vintage is more stylish to wear anyway. So raid Mom or Grandma's closets. And browse vintage shops and second-hand stores to give life to an orphaned patent leather clutch or pair of pointy-toed shoes. Smart, sexy and thrifty: the triple threat.

  3. Step 3
Turn heads with this sexy black number.

Wearing patent leather pants may be taking it a little too far. Unless you're a super model. They can pull off about anything. Instead, try a belted coat in patent leather or vinyl to add texture to a pair of leggings or short dress and shine to a pair of skinny jeans.

Tips & Warnings
  • Pay attention to changing styles. Patent leather can come in or go out of style, depending on the season or designer trends. However, by choosing timeless styles that don’t look too faddish, patent leather can maintain its classic fashion factor for years to come.
  • Avoid dressing from head-to-toe in the stuff. Unless it’s going to rain for the next year. Then, I suggest yellow.
