Dress for a Party
Dress for a Party

Dressing for a party can seem so simple yet be so frustrating! Worry no more with this reference on what to wear!

From Quick Guide: New Year's Eve Outfits
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

If the party host did not indicate the dress code on the invite, call and ask them when you RSVP what the dress code will be.

  2. Step 2

Decode the dress code. For definitions on the various dress codes for social events, copy and paste the address below in a new window.

  3. Step 3

Once you have determined the type of apparel you should be wearing, look in the back of your closet. You may have a long lost cocktail dress or theme attire that is perfect for the occasion!

  4. Step 4

If you need to purchase something new and want to really look chic, pick up a celebrity magazine (like US weekly) and check out the pictures from the red carpet. You will get an idea of what styles and colors are really hot right now.

  5. Step 5

Know your body type. Just because something looks good on Jessica Simpson or Sheryl Crow, you need to wear something that will flatter your figure and accentuate your ASSETS.

  6. Step 6

Hit the mall. A few great stores for evening apparel clothing:
    Cache
    Nordstrom
    Macys
    JC Penny
    Mariposa
    Gap
and also check out stores like Ross, TJ MAXX and Marshalls for great deals on designer duds!

Tips & Warnings
  • An empire waist flatters most figures.
  • go for flowy tops with tighter designer jeans.
  • Jewel tones are really popular right now and look great on almost everyone.
  • If all else fails, go for the little black dress.
  • Don't overdo it. If you are going to wear something that is revealing of one area, don't be revealing other areas as well. Meaning, no Super low cleavage bearing neckline that is also backless, with mini skirt and high heels.
  • When accesorizing, pick one main piece of jewelry, keep the rest simple.
