How to Squeeze in Exercise

We don't always have time for a trip to the gym. However, a series of brief, mild forms of exercise throughout the day can add up to big health benefits! Read on to learn more.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Stairs
  • Chair

Step1
Push yourself into inconvenient situations. Park in the farthest spot, take the stairs, walk to the restroom on the floor above yours.
Step2
Tense and relax the muscles in your legs, buttocks and stomach as you sit at your desk throughout the day. Be aware of how often you do it, and at what intensity, and this simple exercise can really tone these areas.
Step3
If you have to do a series of repeated movements at work--i.e., bending down to a filing cabinet--be aware of how you do them, and use them to your advantage. Keep your back straight and use your leg and arm muscles to the best of their ability.
Step4
If you have to lift something even moderately heavy as you walk, be sure you are using your arm muscles, not your back, to lift. If you can, gently raise and lower the object as you walk.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not repeat any movement or exercise that causes you pain or discomfort.
