If you are hosting a baby shower, the first rule of thumb is to ask the mother-to-be what her preferences are for her baby shower cake. She may prefer a chocolate cake, a white cake–or something totally different. If the mother to be already has a specific type or style of baby shower cake in mind it can take a load off of you. But, if she doesn’t have any preferences, do not get overwhelmed. Choosing a baby shower cake is not that difficult.

If the baby shower decorations have a theme or specific color design or pattern, you should try to find a baby shower cake that matches. If you cannot locate one that matches, simply have one special ordered. Bakers can easily design a one of a kind baby shower cake.

Decide what size of baby shower cake you will need. The size of the cake will depend upon how many people will be attending the baby shower. Tell the baker the approximate number of party goers you are expecting--and then ask to have the cake slightly larger. This will ensure that you have enough cake for individuals who show up without an RSVP. It will also enable the mother-to-be to take cake home to her partner.

Baby shower cakes should be ordered well in advance of baby showers. You may be surprised to learn that many bakers are booked weeks in advance. Contact the baker of your choice, select your cake and plan the pickup date for the morning of the baby shower.

Call the baker a few days prior to the baby shower. Go over the baby shower cake details again just to make sure everything is in order with your cake and there are no problems.
