By following a few simple rules, even a beginner photographer with a basic camera can take beautiful pictures. Read on to learn more.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Camera
  1. Step 1

Be aware of how you are framing your picture. Is the subject where they should be (generally, in the center of your frame)?

  2. Step 2

Be sure there are no unwanted objects or people in the background of your picture.

  3. Step 3

Adjust the lighting as necessary. Flash does not necessarily make for a good picture. Try to achieve desired light without using the flash. Natural light is most flattering.

  4. Step 4

Be aware of the distance between you and your subject. If there is too much distance, you may not be able to make out fine details in the photo. If you are too close, you may be cutting out important aspects of the frame.

  5. Step 5

The best portraits look natural. Try to catch your subject is a casual moment, when they are engaging with another person or looking away from, not towards the camera.
