Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Car
  • Maps
  • Gas
  1. Step 1

First of all, plan your trip. Sit down with a map and chart the course you will take. Decide ahead of time which bridge or tunnel to take.

  2. Step 2

It is easy to get intimidated while driving in New York, so go as slowly and cautiously as you like--in the far right lane, of course!

  3. Step 3

The roads in New York are always full of surprises, so be extra vigilant of what is coming up. Construction, detours, etc can pop up suddenly.

  4. Step 4

Don't block the box! Getting stuck in the middle of the intersection in New York can lead to big time tickets and fines. If you don't have enough room on the other side of the light, wait it out.

Tips & Warnings
  • It's usually your best bet to stick to expressways if you can, even if the traffic is piling up. On very rare occasions, it may be faster to leave the expressway and drive on through streets.
  • If you can get out of driving, take mass transit instead! New York has one of the best mass transit systems in the entire world. Take advantage of it.
  • It is very easy to get lost in New York, even as a seasoned driver. If you don't know an area or are thinking about trying a new way around, map it out or ask for directions.
